KATIE LEAMON'S HEIRLOOM COLLECTION...

If Spring was a stationery collection, then this would be it!

The Heirloom collection is the dreamy collab by Katie Leamon and the British fashion house Lily and Lionel. The entire collection just oozes elegance and charm.

Overly floral patterns (the ditzy floral kind) are not normally my go to style, but I'm in awe of how beautiful this collection is. The wrapping paper is definitely going to be used for some origami projects, and as for the cards, I already have names in mind of friends I know that will LOVE them.

The only slight issue I have with Katie Leamon's stationery, gift wrap and cards, is that it's too damn beautiful! Right down to their envelopes, it's often hard to actually part with them to giveaway.

The contrasting double sided gift wrap is perfect for not only the most exquisitely wrapped gifts of all time, but also a beaut addition to crafting projects. The first that springs to mind is to use it to create the backing for a pretty notice board.

Fellow notebook and journal lovers, there is also lay flat notebooks within this collection.

I received this selection of goodies as part of Katie Leamon subscription service. The kind of post which is just the biggest treat to receive on a monthly basis. It's a highly recommended subscription service for those who love the most stylish and high quality stationery.

A SPRING TIME BUCKET LIST...

Now that Spring has sprung, and that “normal life” is within reach I thought I would create a little Spring bucket list. A kind of seasonal tick list to make the most of this season of new beginnings.

Time to start ticking these off...

Spring clean the house from top to bottom

Pack a picnic (champagne included) and visit a new little beauty spot

Find a field of bluebells

Bake Easter biscuits

Marvel at the beauty of a Cherry Blossom

Smile at the hop, skip and jump of the lambs

Decorate the house for Easter

Plant seeds and watch the little sproutlings sprout

Create an Easter/Spring tablescape

Fill a flask with tea and go out and watch the sunrise

Fill the house with fresh cut flowers

Enjoy brunch outside

Head out for a bike ride in the sunshine

Plant a little herb garden

Top the bird feeders up, and keep an eye out for the cute little birds

Try out new bakes and recipes using beautiful seasonal veggies

Make bank holiday plans

 Make a dandelion wish

What are you most looking forward to this Spring?

HELLO SPRING... LET THE DECORATING BEGIN!

The transition of the seasons is something I’ve always loved about living in Britain. There is something so magical at marvelling at the landscapes and our surroundings as they transform before our eyes.

Reflecting these seasonal changes at home is something I’ve also always loved to do. From as far back as my memories go my Mum would go all out when it came to special occasions. From decorating the house for birthdays, hiding heart chocolates and notes in my lunchbox for Valentines, to filling vases with Spring Flowers and decorating Easter trees. A special occasion never went uncelebrated. Not to mention incredible seasonal bakes and delicious food. After all it’s not just Christmas that deserves the special treatment.

Somehow, in what truly has felt like a blink of an eye we have just said hello to Spring! This means switching up The White Company 'Winter' candles for 'Spring', and letting the Spring clean commence. Then it's time to say hello to springtime styling!

Easter is early this year ( I feel like this phrase is up there with one of the most common thing Brits say) so eggs and bunny decs will be making an also immediate appearance.

Mood boards have been pretty much part of my daily routine at the moment, creating them brings me such joy and I think I’ve pretty much nailed my Easter tablescapes for the next 10 years!!

I thought I would share a few images for some inspiration, and basically an excuse to explore even more beautiful ideas.

Happy Spring beauties! x

WE ARE LIKE THE WAVES...

I’ve always had an affiliation with the sea. It’s the place that makes me feel most grounded. A gravitational pull that gives me a sense of comfort and calm. A walk last weekend got me thinking (clearly the sea induces some deep-thinking vibes within me). This sea and its shoreline are the exact same, yet it has the ability to show up as different versions of itself. Much as we do as human beings, it captivates different moods depending on the environment. One moment we can feel flat, lifeless with very little desire to move great depths. Next, we can feel exhilarated, free to move and able to put up a fight. No one blames the sea for its current state. No one tells it to change. In fact, we sit in awe of both its stillness and also its ability to form huge energetic, crashing waves.

This made me wonder… Why do we put pressure on ourselves to change when we feel a little flat? Why not simply remind ourselves tomorrow is a different day, and that the environment will be different? I think it’s time we put a stop to attempting to fix ourselves. Stop trying to be this all-enthusiastic go-getting person every single day.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve often felt guilty in the past for taking time out, guilty for wanting to relax and have time doing things I want to be doing, not the things I feel like I should! We admire the calm, stillness of the sea, so why don’t we allow ourselves to admire that same calmness within us? The busiest person title has been attempted to be won by many. I believe now is truly the time to allow ourselves that level of calm and relaxation. It's time to stop wearing the busy title like it is a crown to be proud of and simply start listening to our own intuitions and needs.

That’s when being by the sea got me thinking a little deeper…

The juxtaposition of the beauty in the sunlight glistening on the waves against its strength and dangerous depth is somewhat thought provoking. The way something so dangerous and somewhat unknown still leaves behind gifts on the shoreline. Beautiful naturally crafted shells and stones scatter the shoreline like treasures left behind. It smooths out the sand leaving behind an elegant carpet of fine grains that shimmer from every angle. It creates a pathway in which we can explore. The more I thought about this the more I realised it offered up a perfect metaphor for this current s**t show of a situation. Despite the upset, the unknown and the potential threat, it acts as an important reminder to also take note of the beautiful things it leaves behind. Things that are so often missed because we are so programmed to focus on the negatives!! I came across these beautiful words that offered up that glimmer of hope. That glistening seashell hidden within this hard and unknown time.

This offered me with a little awakening, and I hope it does for you too….We are surrounded by so much beauty. All we have to do us open our eyes and hearts to it.

These Words...

I stumbled across these words a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't not share them with you.

I hope you love it as much as I do.

Here goes....

“Push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. Go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.

Push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. Wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable. Lie in your garden, feel the sunshine on your skin.

Get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. Fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. Sit and eat it and do nothing else.

Stretch. Start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. Roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.

Buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.

Buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. Write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.

Strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. wash, then hang them in the sunshine with care. Make your bed in full.

Dig your fingers into the earth, plant a seed. See your success as it grows everyday.

Organise your room. Fold all your clothes (and bag what you don’t want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.

Breathe. Practice your deep breathing. Ground yourself.

Have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. Lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck.

Push yourself to go for a walk. Take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. Smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dog’s behaviour. Realise you can learn from your dog.

Message old friends with personal jokes. Reminisce. Suggest a catch up soon, even if you don’t follow through. Push yourself to follow through.

Think long and hard about what interests you. Crime? Sex? Boarding school? Long-forgotten romance etiquette? Find a book about it and read it. There is a book about literally everything.

Become the person you would ideally fall in love with. Let cars merge into your lane when driving. Pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. Stick your tongue out at babies. Help an animal. Compliment people on their cute clothes. Challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. Then two. Then a week. Walk with a straight posture. Look people in the eye. Ask people about their story. Talk to acquaintances so they become friends.

Lie in the sunshine. Daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasn’t a thing. open your eyes.

Take small steps to make it happen for you...”

SCREW YOU RESOLUTIONS

We’ve been programmed to see New Year’s Day as a switch. The day we wake up and suddenly stop enjoying that extra glass of wine with yes, yet another cheese board!! We whip down all the decs for a spruce up, and a spring clean, forgetting that Winter has actually only just begun. The cosy evenings are here to stay just a little longer.

A new year naturally presents a fresh new start yet. Yet January as a month is quite the opposite. It is often a little dark and dreary, and not the most inspiring. Our waistlines are often a little fuller, and our bank balances a little lighter. This got me thinking, perhaps it’s become more of a habitual behaviour than an actual WANT to set resolutions.

This year feels somewhat of a continuation of the last. A year that felt a little unused. Whilst I remain ever hopeful we will be out doing wonderful things very soon, I have started this year a little differently to past January’s. I guess this is why I’m also posting this on the last day of the month and not the first!

I used to be that person that the second the clock struck midnight I was cracking on with a new fitness regime, and the chase for big goals had begun. I would quickly find myself scoffing chocolate and sipping red wine at the first opportunity…. That New Year bandwagon was off the tracks!!  I felt like I went into 2020 as one person and came out another. One with more clarity, direction, and a thirst for a different life than the one I thought I wanted, which was ironic as it was the year I, like the rest of us completely slowed down. It taught me to be a little kinder to myself, and it taught me that a little something in moderation was the key to feeling heathier and happier. No more denying myself of said chocolate or red wine WOOHOO.

Side note: I will take this opportunity to say if you have set big resolutions then GO YOU SUPERSTAR… always remember, happiness is what it looks like for you, not everyone else. But for me 2021 is not about setting resolutions I know I won’t ultimately stick to.

2020 was a stark reminder that you can never be fully prepared for anything. And a reminder that we all needed to fully live in the moment.

For me 2021 is going to be about just that…. Living more in the moment and embracing the things I learnt about myself in 2020. Doing more of the things that make me feel golden, and pretty much just winging my way through.

Here’s just a few things I will be embracing more ( in no real order)…

My Golden List:

Arranging fresh flowers into vases, bottles, or any other vessel I can get my hands on

Catch ups with my beautiful friends

Memory making with my family

Mood boards

A steaming mug of hot chocolate

A flask of tea on an early morning drive

Road trips

Listening to my heart

and following it too

Mountain hiking ( with a good supply of snacks)

Wrapping gifts in beautiful paper and ribbons

Love letters

The simple things

Growing fresh veggies and a windowsill herb garden

Lists – I fricking love a list!!!

A bar of chocolate and a magazine ( that’s right, the “share” bar just to myself

The crisp pages of a new book

The crumpled well-loved last few pages of an old book

Beach walks

Country walks

Let’s face it, any kind of walk

Creating beautiful tablespaces for dinner

Dinner dates

Brunch dates

Lighting every single candle I have ( even the expensive ones, actually ESPECIALLY the expensive ones

Golden things

Glittery things

Dancing to my fave playlist

Having my nails done

Bookshops

Discovering new places, and pretty little towns

Living a good life

How are you are hoping to spend your time in 2021?

A Dog's Purpose - From a 6 year old!!

Notably these are not my words, but they are words that I think we can all live by. I wanted this blog to be a place you can come to feel a little uplifted and inspired to always follow your heart. A place to encourage you to live a good life. I hope that helps do just that...

A Dog's Purpose - From a 6 year old!!

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ‘I know why.’

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, ‘People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?’ The Six-year-old continued, ‘Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.’

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply..

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY.

EXPLORING LLANBERIS

The journey from Bournemouth took just over five hours, and as a top co-pilot I only slept for about 20 minutes of the journey. Annoyingly this was just as we entered the rolling hills of the Welsh valleys, but I definitely made up for it by requesting a few little pit stops to stop and take pics.

Leaving first thing in the morning meant a couple of stop offs for coffee were inevitable, but it meant we would have some time to explore Llanberis a little that afternoon.

Once our bags were down and our bellies full of tea and cake (more on this later) we set off to explore a few of the local landmarks.

Never before have I been so far north in Wales and was albeit slightly naïve but fascinated to understand that the majority of the locals actually spoke Welsh!

We ventured out to find the most breath taking waterfall and also an awesome castle (or what was left of it). The scenery itself was enough to keep you occupied, made even better by the slight appearance of Autumn. It was on this walk I had the first glimpse into wondering if the impending climb was a good idea as it was on the decent from the castle that I went ass over tit!!! Blaming my new walking boots, as it couldn't possibly be my renowned clumsiness we hiked on in search of what more Llanberis had to offer.

Cue the part of continuing to chat about more about the cake. This section is something I could dedicate a whole blog post to as the hospitably we experienced from Elaine and Andy was like no other. The second we arrived at Glyn Afon Guest House we were greeted with a steaming pot of tea and the most delicious selection of cakes to help ourselves to. Both Elaine and Andy were so so welcoming and it instantly felt like a home from home. So much so that I realised I had already taken my boots off whilst we were chatting to them in the reception area.

It felt like we were on some kind of baking and goodies retreat as at every given opportunity there was rocky road, lemon cake and any other cake you can imagine on offer. Even our rooms were stocked with little chocolate treats and also all the toiletry essentials you could possibly need for a weekend stay.

If you have read my post about the actual climb you will know that I prevented a hangry midmountain meltdown by stocking my bag with lots of snacks. Now whilst I don't recommend going up without any kind of supplies but with an Elaine breakfast, let's just say you will be fuelled for hours. Fresh fruit and yoghurt, pancakes and then a full English meant our bellies were well and truly stocked up for the impending adventure. I mean 3 course breakfasts need to be become a thing right? Not to mention, you guessed it a little cake care package was on offer.

The only one complaint we had was that Elaine couldn't up sticks and head to Scotland so we could stay there when we do the next challenge up to Ben Nevis.

Both evening meals we headed to two local pubs. The first, The Heights, was a proper "walkers" pub and whilst I was a little saddened not to be greeted with a big roaring fire the staff were lovely and friendly, and the food was super hearty and perfect the night before climbing Snowdon. The second The Gwynedd Inn was definitely the kind of pub you want to head to after conquering a mountain. My one piece of advise is to go hungry as the portions were HUGE!

Sadly the Slate Mine Museum and little Hospital Museum were closed so we couldn't venture around them, but the location made for such a beautiful and relaxing break.

We stayed for two night which I think gave the perfect amount of time to explore Llanberis. Next time I would love to head back to try the zipwire which was sadly closed whilst we were there.

This was such a perfect little staycation and I am definitely going to be creating a list of more places in the UK to head to.... So send all your recommendations my way.

Have you explored North Wales or Llanberis before?

CLIMBING SNOWDON AND LIVING WITHOUT EXPECTATION

In true winging it style there was a two week time frame from being asked, to saying yes, and then taking on the Snowdon climb. I mean who needs to stop and take weeks or months to decide if they want to hike up a mountain without any prep? But what an awesome way to say goodbye to my 31st year and hello to the next!

The night before we set off my walking buddy asked me what I was most looking forward to about the climb. I thought about it for a second and then admitted that I was heading into it with no expectation. No hopes of how it would go, or without preconceptions of what I expected.

One thing I did know for sure was that I needed to be armed with lots of snacks, as let's face it  no one wants to be hangry half way up a mountain. If the trip taught me anything it's that I'm now a firm contender for the next series of SAS Who Dares Wins after successfully reaching the summit of a mountain with 40kg of carbs in my Bergen rucksack.

Tying up my walking boots on the morning of the climb I still had zero expectation of what laid before me. Soon into our adventure I was very grateful that I invested in a good pair of said walking boots and snug socks.. both come highly recommended. We passed a couple of hikers later on during our descent sporting a pair of Nikes and I'm not sure they would have had feet left by the end.

We set off up the Miners path which gave us the opportunity to witness an everchanging scenery and was a perfect combination of more gentle (ish) terrain with some clambering. Shout out to my nail tech for all 10 of my nails staying fully intact. The higher we climbed the more beautiful it became as the landscape literally transformed before us. This particular path was also home to the most stunning and unexpected lakes.

After reaching the summit we ventured back down the Llanberis route. I am by no means now claiming to be some sort of hiking expert but I would highly recommend doing this route if you're a first timer. It gave a real all round experience.

On both the ascent and descent we experienced  moments where the mist immersed us into a blanket of zero visibility. Then within seconds, as if by magic, the wind blew and carried that blanket away revealing the most breath taking views. At no point did this change in conditions make us turn back. Our speed may have lessened but momentum up the mountain continued as we knew the path we were heading up. This got me thinking about life. How we are surrounded by such beauty and adventure yet sometimes something blocks our path, or clouds our outlook. Despite this meaning some things may have to be adapted it's always important to remember this time too shall pass. Life is still going on around us even if in that split second we can't quite see where we are heading.

That said, as we reached the summit the mist shrouded us once again and we couldn't see a thing. Tom Hardy could have been standing nude at the top and I would have been none the wiser!! It was during this moment I realised having no expectation worked in my favour. It meant even after several hours of climbing up the side of a mountain I didn't feel failure or disappointment the fact we reached the summit and couldn't see a thing. All I felt was happiness and a sense of achievement in the fact we had reached the top. I didn't care that we couldn't see the views, or the fact it was blowing an absolute hoolie. I mean don't get me wrong it would have been nice to catch a glimpse of it, but I'm not complaining.

I pinky promise this is me at the top and not just stood in front of a white wall in the B&B!!

I've noticed a pattern of behaviour most of us adopt as we get older. The over planning and leading with presumption and preconception.  As a child we've yet to learn about consequences or being let down so everything is just one big adventure and excitement. Little ones never really head into anything thinking about what to expect. I realise this was exactly how I stepped into this challenge. How leading with an open mind and no expectations gave way to enjoying every part of the experience. The experience ended up being far greater and more precious this way as no matter what the outcome there is always something to be taken from it. Try it...I promise you won't be disappointed.

This was an epic adventure that I'm so chuffed I said yes to and I can't wait to get my walking boots back out for the next one.

I have also done a little post all about Llanberis itself which you can read about here

Here's to many more adventures.

HELLO PUMPKIN

Visiting a Pumpkin Patch has been on my bucket list for years. The reason it's stayed unticked is the added detail that I wanted it to be in America!! Each year I've seen people heading to one and picking their perfect orange companion, and I guess I've always stayed a little stubborn to wanting to do it stateside.

Adopting more of a yes man (or women) attitude lately I've been wanting to crack on and gain more life experiences. This has meant putting a stop to waiting for the right time or place but just saying yes and enjoying that individual moment. All these moments are ones that could be done again with a particular person, or in a particular place, but it means not denying myself of still having some fun. And fun was exactly what we had.

We are fortunate enough to have a patch right on our doorstep, so in full Autumnal attire (I thought the pumpkin outfit might have been a bit overboard) we headed in search for our orange mate.

The way in which the Cat and Fiddle Farm Shop has created the patch was so so wonderful and gave all the Autumnal vibes. Armed with a wheelbarrow that they provide you are given free reign to head out and pick pumpkins until your hearts content. There were literally big ones, small ones and some the size of your head (note I have a whacking great head!!).

Once the chosen one had been paid for ,we grabbed one of the tables that had been set out to enjoy a delicious hot chocolate.

A controversial move but after seeing some gorgeous designs on Pinterest I'm actually going to be painting my pumpkin as opposed to carving... I mean who even am I? Keep an eye out on my Instagram where if it's not too much of a disaster I will be posting pics.

This particular patch is a pick your own all year round so I'm definitely going to be heading back next year for strawberries and whatever else they have to offer.

Pumpkin Health and Safety Disclaimer: The stalks are super spikey and the big ones are deceivingly fricking heavy! Yes I am clumsy and a liability so witnessed both first hand!
